Fundación Pompeya is a non-for-profit organization founded in Cartagena de Indias, Colombia on the 17th of February 2005.  We promotes social inclusion in the local area and provides habilitation services to people with disabilities or developmental difficulties through art, therapy and pedagogical training in order to have a positive impact on the society and develop a more egalitarian and equitable culture in Cartagena.

 

We use the Integral Development Model and Artistic Training, which belongs to Fundación Pompeya. This model has an artistic and therapeutic approach and its main goal is to promote an inclusive culture

 

In the past eight years, we were able to achive our goal thanks to the teamwork of psychologists, audio-phonologist, qualified teachers in both pedagogy, visual arts, and music.

 

Mission

 

Our mission is to educate and integrate in the local community children, youth and adults with disabilities and/or developmental difficulties. We develop artistic skills in people with disabilities, strengthen their autonomy, and improve their quality of life, and promote research in this field. Our goal is to provide children and young people, with and without disabilities, more and more artistic activities that will enable them to use art as a means of express themselves, made their situation visible to the local community and create the premise of an inclusive society in Cartagena.

 

 

Vision


Our vision is to become a locally, nationally, and internationally-recognized organization in the integral development field of disabled people within 2016, to spread an educative method based on art and culture, and to promote values ​​like Respect, Freedom of expression and creativity, Participation, Accountability, Equality and Equity.


Projects (2005-2012)

 

From 2005 we trained in arts more than 465 children, youth and adults with and without disability. Our projects and actions were recognized in Cartagena as an opportunity of cultural inclusion.

 

With our guidance, the participants of our projects were able to take part in the Regional Olympics  Organized by FIDES, National Festivals (FIDES Art Festival and Parade of Flowers the National Beauty Contest) and art locals. We took part in the Committee District of Disability-invited by the Mayor Cartagena district represented by the Secretary of Participation and social Development Unit social Disability- in order to indentify problems, create platforms, and realize activities for people with disabilities.

 

We realized four Arts and Disability Forums where they have trained about 400 teachers and parents, two Visual Art Exhibitions. In these events participated five other institutions for people with disabilities who participated with plastic samples, plus set arts. The Winners of these events-two of them were our students-participated in the National Art Biennial with Disabilities in Medellin.

 

 

Cooperations

 

In the last five years we cooperate with the University Corporation Rafael Núñez, the Regional University Corporation IAFIC Caribbean, the Educational Institution Tatiana Sierra, the Institution University de Bellas Artes y Ciencias de Bolívar, the Center for High Performance Caribbean, the Municipality of Cartagena and the Ministry of Participation and social Development, which helped us to achieve our projects and programs. Moreover, we developed more than ten projects of arts training, popular education, social control, and educational support for inclusion in the Department of Bolivar in agreement with the Ministry National Culture, IPCC, Local Network Libraries, the Mayor of Cartagena, the Secretary of Participation and Social Development, the Government of Bolivar, through the Secretary of Education, and NGOs such as War Child Holland, Transparency for Colombia and Fonrecar.
